Bash

Reports and KPIs for your Locations

Bash is where managers check how each Location is doing against its projection, last year and its targets. Every page works the same way: pick a period and Locations at the top, then read the blocks below.

Reading the Dashboard
Your starting point every day

Who can use this: anyone with Bash access. The Dashboard is always on, and each block on it can be switched on or off for a role.

The Dashboard answers one question: is anything off today? It shows:

Tiles

Sales, Labor hours, Cost of goods, Prime cost and Guest satisfaction for your period. Each tile has a link, such as Open Revenue, to the full page.

Needs Attention

Locations that are 5% or more off their benchmark, ranked by the dollars involved.

Sales by Day

Net sales for each day against your projection. An outlined bar is today so far, not a finished day.

Dashboard by Location

Every Location in one table: sales, labor %, labor hours, COGS %, prime cost, discounts and guest rating, each compared with that Location's own projection or target.

Best practiceToday is still in progress, so early in the day many numbers read "so far" and Needs Attention may say nothing is complete enough to judge. Check yesterday or this week for a fair picture.
Heads upSelect the small i beside the filters on any page for a short "how to read this page" panel written for that page.
Period, Locations and Comparison
The strip at the top of every report page

Every report page has the same controls. What you set here changes every block on the page.

Comparison

Projected compares with your Budgeting projections. Last Year compares with the same weekdays last year. Off shows the actual figures alone.

Period

Today, Yesterday, This week, Last week, This month, Last month, This year, or Custom for your own dates.

Locations

Choose All, a group, or individual Locations, then select Apply. You only see Locations assigned to you.

Export

Download the page or email it. See Export and Email below.

Comparison choices depend on the page. Dashboard, Revenue and Labor offer Projected, Last Year and Off. Third Party offers Last Year and Off. Discounts, Purchasing, Reviews and Profit and Loss compare with targets or earlier periods instead.

Differences stay grey when small, turn amber when a figure is 2 to 5% off, and get a stronger color beyond 5%. Where there is nothing to compare with, the page says so, such as "No projection" or "No LY". Bash never makes up a comparison.

Best practiceSet the same period and Locations on each page before comparing two pages side by side. A page left on "Today" will not match one on "This week".
Revenue
Where sales come from and why they moved

Who can use this: anyone with Revenue access. Each block below can be switched on or off for a role.

 • Sales Summary: net sales against your comparison, with orders and average check.
 • Why Sales Moved: against a projection, how much each Location or day added to or took from the gap. Against last year, it splits the change into more orders and a higher check.
 • Net Sales by Day: bars are net sales and the line is your comparison. Longer periods group into weeks or months.
 • Revenue by Location: every Location side by side. Switch the table between Metrics and Channel Mix (in store, online ordering, third-party delivery and catering).
 • Detail by Location and Channel: select Show table for the exact figures behind the charts.
Heads upNet sales have refunds already subtracted, the same way Toast's Sales Summary reports them, so the figures should match Toast for the same day.
Labor
Hours, cost and overtime

Who can use this: anyone with Labor access. Each block can be switched on or off for a role.

 • Labor Summary: hours worked against the hours your Labor % target allows for the sales you made, plus sales per labor hour, labor % of sales, labor dollars and overtime hours.
 • Labor Hours by Day: hours against the budget for each day. Switch between Hours and Labor %.
 • Overtime Watch: hourly employees getting close to 40 hours this week (from 36), counting hours worked and shifts still scheduled.
 • Labor by Location: actual, target and scheduled hours for each Location.
 • Next Week's Labor Budget: your projected sales for next week multiplied by your Labor % target, then divided by each Location's average hourly wage, gives the hours to schedule. A Location with days missing a projection says so.
Heads upLabor targets come from Budgeting. With no Labor % target for a brand, Bash shows "No labor target" rather than guessing. If scheduled shifts aren't connected, totals are hours worked so far. An administrator connects scheduling in BashKPI Hub under Integrations.
Third Party
Delivery app sales

Who can use this: anyone with Third Party access.

Third Party shows sales that came through delivery platforms such as DoorDash and Uber Eats. It has a summary, Sales by Platform (largest first), Third-Party Share of Sales by day, and a table by Location. Changes compare with the same weekdays last year. There are no targets, so nothing is marked good or bad.

Heads upThe Estimated Fees and Net Revenue block is optional and not set up yet. Toast reports what guests paid, not what a platform keeps, and Bash never guesses a commission rate.
Purchasing
Cost of goods, inventory and invoices

Who can use this: anyone with Purchasing access. Adding invoices needs the invoice Can Edit permission, and inventory counts need the inventory Can Edit permission.

Purchasing is your cost of goods: food, beverage and packaging only. Invoices for anything else, such as cleaning supplies, are ignored. The page has these blocks:

 • Cost of Goods: purchases, cost of goods, share of sales and the previous period. Until inventory is counted it reads "Purchases only".
 • Where the Money Went and Vendors: purchases by group and by vendor, largest first.
 • Locations: cost of goods against each brand's target.
 • Inventory Counts, Invoices and Daily Cost of Goods.

1Log an invoice

 1. Find the Invoices block and select Add invoice.
 2. Choose the date and Location, then enter the vendor, the invoice number and the GL account (COGS Food, COGS Alcohol, COGS NA Beverage or COGS Paper Packaging Supplies). Date, Location, vendor and GL account are required.
 3. Enter the invoice total. If you track it, add the amount for each category: Dairy, Bakery, Dry Grocery, Produce, Protein and Sauce.
 4. Select Add invoice, then check the Cost of Goods block to see it count.

Your team can also enter invoices in WrapUp with Submit Invoice. Both go to the same place.

2Count inventory and get the recap

 1. In Inventory Counts, use the arrows to choose the month you are closing.
 2. For each Location enter the Beginning and Ending inventory. Beginning fills in from last month's ending count.
 3. Select Save counts. Select Download recap for the COG Recap PDF.
Heads upWith both counts entered, true cost of goods is beginning inventory plus purchases minus ending inventory. That is more exact than the Dashboard's tile, which is purchases against sales with no inventory adjustment. Both are right; they answer different questions.
Discounts
What was given away and where

Who can use this: anyone with Discounts access.

 • Discounts Summary: discounts as a share of gross sales against your brand's target, with the dollars, comps and refunds.
 • Discounts by Type: comps, employee meals, promotions, other discounts and refunds for each day. Select a type in the key to hide or show it.
 • Top Discounts: the biggest discounts by their POS name.
 • Discounts by Location: each Location compared with its Reporting Group and with the four periods before.
 • Flagged Days: days that look unusual, with the manager on duty from the WrapUp Logbook. Toast doesn't record who applied each discount.
 • Refunds: counted on the day they were issued, as Toast's Sales Summary does, and already subtracted from net sales.
Reviews
Guest ratings by Location

Who can use this: anyone with Reviews access. Logging reviews needs the reviews Can Edit permission.

Reviews shows a Guest Rating, a Rating Mix by stars, the five Review Platforms (Google, Yelp, DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub) and a table by Location. Ratings come from review counts your team logs.

 1. In Review Entries, select Log reviews manually.
 2. Choose the source, the Location and the day, then enter how many reviews came in at each star rating.
 3. Select Save entry. Use Edit or Delete beside an entry to change it.

WrapUp's Submit Reviews adds to the same list.

Heads upTo track a platform's reviews automatically in the future, an administrator links each Location to its listing in BashKPI Hub under Integrations, then Third Party. Until a source is connected, your team logs counts by hand.
Profit and Loss
The statement by Location

Who can use this: anyone with Profit & Loss access.

The Statement lists sales, cost of sales, labor, operating expenses and income for All Locations and each Location. Use the switches to choose Toast or GL report as the source, Amounts or % of Sales, or Both. Select a section to open it, and select a cost line to see its vendors. Costs are shown in parentheses. A shaded cell is 2 or more points of sales worse than All Locations.

Heads upCost lines come from your accounting file. If you see "No GL data found" or "No GL accounts are grouped yet", an administrator needs to upload a GL report and group its accounts in BashKPI Hub under Integrations. Salaried pay shows "Not connected" until that data is available. Until then only sales and labor appear.
Budgeting
Set the numbers everything else is compared with

Who can use this: anyone with Budgeting access. Each of the three blocks below has its own Can Edit permission.

Pick a Location along the top, then use the three blocks. Projections feed the Projected comparison on the Dashboard, Revenue and Labor.

1Enter weekly projections

 1. Use the arrows to choose the week.
 2. Type the net sales you expect for each day. Last year and your budget are shown beside each day for comparison.
 3. Select Save. Select Discard to throw away changes you haven't saved.

Suggest projections can fill in days for you: Autofill estimates them, and Copy last year copies last year's pattern. Both only fill empty days, and they mark the days they filled so you can review them before saving.

The block under the week, named for the current month (for example "October at a Glance"), lists each week with its budget and what you have projected so far. Select a week to open it.

2Set monthly budgets

Select Monthly budgets and enter each month's total net sales budget for the Location. Bash spreads it across the days using last year's pattern.

3Set brand targets

Select Brand targets to set Labor %, Average Ticket, COG % and Discount %. You can also set Prime cost %, Guest rating and Overtime hours, which are optional. For each one, choose whether Above or Below is better. Targets decide how Bash colors your numbers. Sales per labor hour has no target of its own: it is worked out from Labor % and each Location's average wage.

Best practiceEnter next month's projections before the month starts. A day with no projection has nothing to compare with, so it shows "No projection".
Export and Email
Take a page with you

Who can use this: anyone who can open the page. Scheduled and instant reports need extra permission, covered below.

The Export button on each report page offers four choices:

 • Excel (.xlsx), PDF and PNG Image download what is on screen.
 • Email Report sends the current report table inside an email. Enter the recipient and an optional subject, then select Send Report.

For a report that goes out on its own, an administrator sets up Scheduled reports and Instant reports in BashKPI Hub under Notifications. See how in the BashKPI Hub guide.

Limits you will hitYou can email up to 10 reports an hour. Instant reports allow 3 in a minute, then a 10-minute pause. The screen tells you when to try again.
Fixing a Mistake
Invoices, reviews, projections and counts
 • Invoices and reviews: select Edit beside the entry to change it, or Delete to remove it. A delete can't be undone, and both buttons only appear if your role has Can Edit.
 • Projections, budgets and targets: change the number and select Save. You can go back and change them at any time.
 • Inventory counts: choose the month, correct the number and select Save counts.
Heads upIf a number looks wrong, check the source before blaming the page. A bad invoice, a missing projection, a Location not linked to its platform, or an out-of-date connection can all move a figure. Data connections and the last pull are in BashKPI Hub under Integrations.
What You Can See
Pages, blocks and Locations

Bash follows your role. A page you can't use is hidden. On a page you can use, each block is on or off for your role, and a block you can read may still be read-only. You only see your Assigned Locations. If something is missing, read Why can't I see something?. An administrator changes access in BashKPI Hub under Roles and Users.
